Cymande, a British funk band that made a mark on the hip-hop culture of the 1990s, is in the midst of a U.S. tour supporting their first LP in years, Renascence. They played Varsity Theater in Minneapolis’ Dinkytown on a Wednesday night and satisfied most everyone in attendance, selecting repeatedly from their beloved, early body of work, songs sampled by the likes of De La Soul producer Prince Paul, Wu-Tang’s RZA and The Fugees.
Guitarist Patrick Patterson said the new LP’s name was apt “because some people thought we were long dead and gone.”
Thankfully, Cymande still has the funk.
