Compared to last week, it’s a light week of live music.
For Minnesota.
That’s shorthand for you won’t have too hard a time picking what show to go to this week, as was the case for me three days in a row last week.
Early this week, if you happen to be up north, like say around Voyageurs National Park, you might want to see The Big Wu’s frontman Mark Joseph play at a distillery near International Falls or a couple resorts on Lake Kabetogama Tuesday and Wednesday or Zorbas in Grand Rapids on the Fourth of July (Thursday) and Friday.
See my calendar for more details.
Monday in Minneapolis is a good time to head to The Cabooze, which is thankfully under new ownership and appears to be re-embracing the local music scene.
Geoffrey Fischbein’s Only Every Monday starts on the Cabooze patio at 6 p.m. with a set from the host, Mr. Fischbein, followed by Ditch Pigeon at 7 p.m., Pat Forsyth and Jon Miller at 8 p.m. and Homeless Moses at 9 p.m.
If I were up in Duluth, I wouldn’t miss Saltydog’s High-Key Monday set that kicks off at 6 p.m.
Jon Miller has a solo set at Dark Horse Bar and Eatery in St. Paul at 6 p.m.
Bunkers in Minneapolis’ North Loop is the place to be for International Reggae All Stars Tuesday or Dylan Salfter on Wednesday.
Thursday, Gluek’s downtown will not have Demitri Rallis & Friends or the Will Effertz Collective in observance of the Fourth of July. That weekly residency will resume next Thursday, according to Rallis, with Rallis and Effertz rotating each week. Last week, Frogleg used the jam as a warm-up for their Backwoods stage set at Blue Ox Music Festival Friday. They crushed it. I’ll be posting pictures, possibly a gallery, from the set later this week.
There’s a wide range of music happening at the downtown Nicollet Mall’s Taste of Minnesota event Saturday and Sunday, including The Wallflowers, Morris Day & The Time, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, L.A. Buckner and BiG HOMiE and the International Reggae All Stars, among many others.
Duluth will have Trampled by Turtles in Bayfront Festival Park on Saturday, and the day before, at Bent Paddle, Dead Man Winter is playing a free show.
Space Monkey Mafia and BYOBrass headline a show at 7th Street Entry in the basement of First Avenue Friday.
Mark Joseph and Momentary Lapse of Floyd play Jake’s on the Lake in Center City on Saturday. Joseph has an early set at 2 p.m.
