Some of the best music news I heard this week was that Orions Belte, a funky psychedelic trio from Norway, is planning a tour of the U.S. in February and March.
And, yes, they are thankfully going to play what I like to refer to as the basement of Minneapolis’ First Avenue: 7th Street Entry on March 12.
Orions Belte has been on my radar for a number of years. They’ve been around since 2018. The band consists of Chris Holm on bass, Øyvind Blomstrøm on guitar, and Kim Åge Furuhaug on drums.
They have a funky, soulful, chill sound that I highly recommend you check out, if you haven’t already. Most of their songs are strictly instrumental.
Their most popular song on Spotify, with more than 7 million listens, is “Joe Frazier,” which does feature some vocals.
Check out the music video for “Bean.” No words, but the track just comforts me.
They are playing a 23-city tour starting Feb. 21 in Los Angeles, the first of five gigs in California, with three additional dates to be announced. They hit a few other western U.S. locales before a jaunt through the Midwest.
Then it’s on to a few southeastern cities before closing out the tour in Washington, D.C. (March 21), Brooklyn (March 22) and, finally, Philadelphia (March 23).
