King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard made good on hints during last week’s Reddit AMA that lots of tour dates in Europe and the U.S. would be dropped soon.
The band dropped 58 new dates Tuesday morning, outlining plans for four festival appearances in South America in March, a 15-show tour of Europe in May and early June, and a slew of dates in North America later in the year.
While the band hit Europe twice in 2023, with lengthy tours in February/March and then again in August/Sept., this tour is shorter, skipping many of the spots it hit this year, while still making six appearances in the United Kingdom, three shows in Germany, and returns to cities such as Brussels, Belgium, Prague, Czech Republic, and Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Here is a list of the dates on King Gizz’s website.
There are actually two separate legs to the North American tour, which includes shows in Canada (but no Mexico shows) with 24 shows stretching from mid-August to mid-September and then another 15 shows in November.
Tucked in to the dates were three separate acoustic shows, including Brighton, U.K. on May 31, Detroit on Aug. 23, and San Diego, Nov. 2.
The band had previously announced dates for marathon sets in Hamburg, Germany (May 22), Forest Hills, N.Y. (Aug 16-17), Chicago (Sept. 1), Washington’s Gorge (Sept. 14) and Austin, Texas (Nov. 15). No additional marathon shows were added with the announcement.
The band had previously mentioned in its newsletter that South American shows were forthcoming, but all four of those announced today are part of Lollapalooza festivals in Argentina (March 15-17), Chile (March 15-17) and Brazil (March 22-24). In addition, there is the Festival Estero Picnic in Bogota, Colombia (March 21-24). Of those, only Colombia is a country the U.S. Embassy advises Americans to “reconsider travel” due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest and kidnapping.
No word was given on what date the band will celebrate trans rights as it did June 3 this year in Pelham, Tenn., when the band came out dressed in drag and shamed Tennessee politics for its stance depriving trans people of their rights (on the same day that a federal judge struck down Tennessee’s previously transphobic law). In the aforementioned AMA, the band said it planned to make a tradition of observing that special show every year.
The band did say, in in its Instagram post announcing the shows, “Let’s get woke, freak out the right wingers and love each other.”
Words to live by.
The two North American tour legs bring the band back to this continent for more thorough touring after only playing 15 shows this June in Boston, Pelham, Tenn., Colorado’s Red Rocks, Chicago, Seattle and Los Angeles.
Next year’s North American first leg hits the east coast and Midwest heavily, while tucking in a trio of Red Rocks shows, including another long day at the famous venue with separate early and late shows on Sept. 9, and two Canadian shows (Toronto, Aug. 21 and Vancouver, (Sept. 12) before ending at The Gorge on Sept. 14.
I’m very excited about the stretch that includes Nashville (Aug. 30), Asheville, N.C. (Aug. 31), Chicago’s Northerly Island (Sept. 1), my adopted hometown of Minneapolis (Sept. 3) at the Armory (which seems like a bit big for the band in the context of this tour; capacity is around 8,000), and Milwaukee (Sept. 4). I’m probably going to ditch my plans to catch Phish at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Labor Day for this stretch, but I’ll be missing out the front end of the tour and those two Forest Hills Stadium marathon shows to attend Phish’s festival in Delaware at the same time.
The second leg hits the West Coast more heavily, with four shows in California (Nov. 1-4), stops in Vegas’s Planet Hollywood (Nov. 8), Phoenix (Nov. 9), Albuquerque (Nov. 10), Oklahoma City (Nov. 12), Fayetteville, Arkansas (Nov. 13), Austin, Texas (Nov. 15), Houston (Nov. 16), New Orleans (Nov. 17), Atlanta (Nov. 19) and a pair of shows in Florida (St. Augustine’s Nov. 20 and Miami, Nov. 21).
Tickets via a special presale will be available for purchase tickets beginning Wednesday (Nov. 8) at 11 a.m. EST. A special code will be delivered to subscribers to the band’s Gizzymail newsletter. The general sale begins Friday, Nov. 10 at noon EST.
